About The Position

SpaceX’s Propulsion Components team develops spacecraft and launch vehicle components. The Components Test Operations group supports production of components and assemblies for Falcon, Dragon, and Starship vehicles by designing, building, operating, and maintaining custom test stands and fixtures for valves, regulators, and actuators. These components are tested in extreme conditions, including temperatures from +900°F to -400°F and pressures above 10,000 psig. Test Specialists contribute to test-resource design by providing operational and maintenance input to engineers. They primarily construct, operate, and maintain test facilities, perform testing, troubleshoot systems, and communicate test results. The role requires availability for either first shift starting at 8:00 AM or second shift starting at 2:30 PM, and overtime and weekends as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
  • At least 5 years of experience with pressure testing.
  • Availability for one of the following shifts: first shift starting at 8:00 AM or second shift starting at 2:30 PM.
  • Availability to work overtime and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to stoop, bend, crawl, and maneuver in tight spaces.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs. unassisted.
  • Must meet the stated U.S. citizenship, nationality, permanent residency, refugee, asylee, or export-authorization eligibility requirements under ITAR.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to read and understand electro-mechanical schematics.
  • Ability to read and understand plumbing and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Ability to read mechanical assembly drawings and blueprints.
  • Ability to install and operate instrumentation such as strain gages, deflection gages, pressure transducers, load cells, thermocouples, RTDs, accelerometers, and analog circuitry.
  • Ability to fabricate and repair electrical systems, including soldering, crimping, and assembling connectors.
  • Ability to fabricate high-pressure plumbing systems, including tube flaring, tube bending, and cone-and-threading.
  • Ability to fabricate mechanical components and assemblies using milling, drilling, turning, and torqueing.
  • Knowledge or experience operating and maintaining pneumatic and hydraulic components, including valves, regulators, and accumulators.
  • Knowledge or experience operating basic machine shop equipment, including sanders, grinders, saws, and benders.
  • Knowledge or experience with test operations procedures, including hydraulic load control, hydro/pneumatic pressure control, and safe handling of flight parts.
  • Knowledge or experience with high-pressure or cryogenic systems, gaseous and liquid.
  • Knowledge or experience with high-voltage AC and DC systems.
  • Knowledge or experience working with electrical components and/or systems.
