Test Infrastructure Engineer

Etched•Taipei, CA

About The Position

Etched is seeking a Test Infrastructure Engineer to build and operate the infrastructure that supports factory testing of its AI systems, from new product introduction through mass production. The engineer will join a small central team responsible for making factory testing reliable, repeatable, and scalable. Factory test floors operate much like small datacenters, with many boards, servers, and racks under test simultaneously. The role owns the systems that provision and run test stations, collect test results and logs into a reliable source of truth, and safely deploy new test software across factories. The engineer works closely with hardware, firmware, software, and production teams, as well as contract manufacturing partners. Etched is building hardware for frontier intelligence, co-designing chips, racks, software, and manufacturing to deliver throughput and latency across prefill and decode workloads. Its first products focus on inference. The company describes itself as a fully in-person team in San Jose and Taipei.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience building and operating production infrastructure.
  • Strong Linux administration skills, including the boot process, package management, systemd, storage, and command-line debugging.
  • Solid networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPNs, and server-room or datacenter network layouts.
  • Experience with distributed systems that run across many machines and continue working when some machines fail.
  • Strong coding skills in Python, C++, or Rust, with experience building tools and services, not only configuration.
  • Experience with automation and configuration management such as Ansible or Terraform, and CI/CD.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus or Grafana, and debugging production issues.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Willingness to work onsite in San Jose or Taiwan and travel to manufacturing partners as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with bare-metal server fleets, lab or datacenter automation, or HPC clusters, such as PXE or Slurm.
  • Experience with server management interfaces such as BMC, IPMI, or Redfish.
  • Experience with manufacturing test infrastructure, test automation platforms, or factory software such as MES or SFIS.
  • Experience building data pipelines for test results, yield analysis, or hardware genealogy.
  • Experience with AI servers, GPU or accelerator systems, or other high-performance compute platforms.
  • Experience working with contract manufacturers; Mandarin is a plus for Taiwan-based candidates.
  • Experience bringing first-generation hardware into production at a fast-paced startup.

Responsibilities

  • Build and operate the test execution platform for factory tests across stations, servers, and racks, keeping it reliable during factory hours.
  • Provision and manage the factory-floor Linux fleet, including OS imaging, network boot, configuration management, and lifecycle automation for test stations and systems under test.
  • Design and maintain networking used by test stations and racks, working with factory partners on site.
  • Build data pipelines to capture every test run, logs, and hardware genealogy in a central view of test history, yield, throughput, and unit history.
  • Own versioned releases, canaries, and rollbacks of factory test packages so test software is deployed safely and traceably.
  • Build monitoring and alerting across factory infrastructure, and lead debugging when infrastructure issues block production.
  • Integrate with contract manufacturers’ factory systems (MES/SFIS) and shared internal data platforms.
  • Automate repetitive debugging tasks, including gathering evidence and grouping repeated failure signatures, and help build toward AI-assisted failure triage.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation packages, including generous equity packages.
  • Comprehensive insurance coverage and other top-of-market benefits.
