About The Position

The Test Engineer researches, designs, develops, tests, documents, and supports software and interface hardware for testing products manufactured for the electric utility industry. This role involves analyzing products to formulate test plans, reviewing new designs for testability, and performing cost/benefit analysis for automation. The engineer will design and develop test interface hardware and software to control products and instrumentation, ensuring products meet design requirements. Responsibilities also include recording and analyzing quality metrics, documenting software and hardware, developing testing procedures, planning test equipment maintenance, and maintaining test systems throughout the product lifecycle. The role requires providing guidance to Test Technicians and collaborating with team members while adhering to company policies.

Requirements

  • BS Engineering degree (EE, CS, or similar) with 5+ years related experience and/or training.
  • 2+ years’ experience in "C", "C#" and SQL/SQL Server.
  • Experience designing automated test equipment.
  • Familiar with common utility communications standards and protocols: TCP/IP TIA-232, TIA-485 and USB.
  • Skilled in programming for hardware and instrument control with C and C#.
  • Knowledgeable with common test equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, and switching systems as well as SCPI commands used to communicate with them.
  • Proficient in SQL and SQL Server.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with LabVIEW, TestStand, and other software languages.
  • Familiarity with power systems and theory is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze products to formulate a test plan to verify design requirements and maximize test coverage.
  • Review new designs and specifications and provide feedback based on testability.
  • Perform cost/benefit analysis to determine desired level of automation.
  • Design and develop test interface hardware necessary for rapid and reliable connection to the device under test.
  • Design and develop test software to control product, instrumentation, and test systems needed to exercise and measure products performance to design requirements specification.
  • Record and analyze critical to quality performance metrics. Initiate investigation and preventative action when necessary.
  • Document and maintain version control on all developed software and hardware.
  • Develop and maintain testing procedures.
  • Determine test equipment maintenance plan and redundancy necessary to minimize test station downtime.
  • Maintain test software and hardware throughout product lifecycle.
  • Provide guidance on common failure modes to Test Technicians.
  • Revise and improve operation, performance, and documentation for new and existing test systems.
  • Work with other team members to accomplish goals.
  • Comply with all work rules, including but not limited to, the company's safety and attendance policies.
