About The Position

The Research Test Engineer will provide an advanced level of expertise and knowledge in the areas of mechanical and biomechanical testing, research of orthopaedic implants and instrumentations, and modeling and simulation. The role requires the engineer to be capable of performing flawless verification tests to support regulatory submissions. The role also needs to analyze and critique designs in prototype development stages to provide a functional and meaningful test of efficacy and safety. The Research Test Engineer needs to stay current with advances in orthopaedic surgery, biomechanics, biomaterials, and modeling and simulation to be able to assess new testing technologies and develop innovative test methods to translate complex biomechanical scenarios into representative mechanical test procedures. Additionally, investigative and research skills are required to support clinical relevance.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or other related disciplines
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the Medical Device industry
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience with servo-hydraulic and electromechanical test equipment or modeling and simulation (Ansys, Abaqus, or similar)
  • Experience with data processing and statistical analyses is required
  • Experience with technical writing is required

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of current ASTM/ISO test standards is preferred
  • Knowledge of regulatory guidelines is preferred
  • Knowledge of ISO 17025 accreditation is preferred
  • Knowledge of impaction physics and impact testing of surgical instrumentation is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform verification tests and simulations to support regulatory submissions.
  • Perform investigational tests and simulations to support new product development and quality investigation.
  • Conduct research to improve product designs.
