About The Position

E- III - Field engineer the installation, routine maintenance testing, and commission testing of the protection and control functions of equipment in the corporation's distribution substation facilities; including transformer bank/bus differential, overcurrent, and underfrequency schemes. Troubleshoot and repair of electromechanical and solid-state microprocessor relays. E-IV - Provide technical support utilizing the application of engineering principles for the troubleshooting and repair of the protection and control equipment. E-V - Performs appropriate testing and commissioning of the protective relay and control systems associated within substation facilities. Applies the appropriate maintenance guidelines, procedures and practices to maintain and enhance the life cycle of protective relay and control systems. Performs the necessary corrective actions associated with the maintenance of protective relay and control systems to mitigate adverse impacts to the transmission system. This position is technically capable of performing activities in facilities from 12kV - 500kV and will be responsible for developing group testing policies and procedures, group safe work practices and associated test forms, as needed. The success of the position maximizes the reliability and continuity of electric service and directly affects customer satisfaction, reliability and cost. Understands and adheres to GTCs, PSMP, CIP requirements, and corporate policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelors in Electrical Engineering
  • E-III - Four (4) years of substation test experience.
  • E-IV - Six (6) Years (Four (4) with PE) of substation test experience.
  • E-V - Eight (8) Years (Six (6) with PE) of substation test experience.
  • E-V Only - Bachelor of Science Degree - Technical (10 year's experience)
  • Bachelor of Science Degree - Other (11 year's experience)
  • Associates Degree Technical (12 year's experience)
  • Non-degree with experience as Test Technician or Substation Maintenance (16 year's experience)
  • Must maintain proper driver licenses to operate assigned vehicle.
  • E-III & E-IV Working knowledge of using a laptop PC and relay test equipment to calibrate protective relays and metering panels.
  • Must have the ability to read substation protection and control prints and equipment schematics.
  • Must be proficient with ITS high voltage switching rules and procedures, and perform switching.
  • E-V Strong communication skills, excellent organizational and time management skills, analytical and problem-solving skills, and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by assignments.
  • Working knowledge of using computer systems and relay test equipment to calibrate protective relay and metering systems.
  • Must be able to read and interpret electrical drawings including but not limited to one-line diagrams, elementary drawings, wiring and connection drawing, and equipment schematics.
  • Must be proficient with the protection equipment and the operational procedures and practices that are applicable to 12kV - 500kV electrical systems including carrier equipment.
  • Ability to lift fifty pounds.
  • Must be able to pass a NERC CIP personnel risk assessment screening.

Nice To Haves
