About The Position

The Test Engineer II identifies and mitigates product risks by developing, adapting, and applying validation methods. The role evaluates production readiness through test-result analysis and risk assessment, and works with Field Quality, Design Engineering, Quality, and Product teams to reduce warranty claims, improve rider satisfaction, and communicate technical findings. The position investigates field failures, reproduces complex failures in the lab, analyzes data to identify probable root causes, and recommends validation criteria and risk-mitigation actions. It also shares technical learning across product categories, correlates laboratory results with field and warranty performance, recommends testing approaches using the company's validation methods, helps develop test machines, maintains equipment, and creates or adapts test methodologies for changing product risks and configurations. The position is based in Morgan Hill, California, with four days in the office. International travel of up to four times per year and a flexible schedule to collaborate with teams in Europe and Asia are expected.

Requirements

  • 2–4 years of experience in test development or data acquisition and analysis; equivalent experience in FEA, Quality Engineering, or Mechanical Design Engineering may be considered with appropriate technical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance established test methods with development of new approaches for emerging product risks.
  • Experience investigating complex failure modes and translating field observations into repeatable laboratory validation methods.
  • Strong technical judgment to assess risk, interpret test results, and recommend validation criteria and next steps.
  • Familiarity with data acquisition and analysis concepts using strain gauges, load cells, potentiometers, and accelerometers.
  • Familiarity with feedback control systems, such as PLC logic and PID feedback loops.
  • Experience managing competing priorities among Design, Quality, and project timeline requirements.
  • Proficiency in fixture design and rapid prototyping, including CAD, GD&T, and basic manual machining tools such as mills and lathes.
  • Willingness to travel internationally up to four times per year and maintain a flexible schedule to collaborate with teams in Europe and Asia.
  • Willingness to work in a hands-on role; the posting states, “This is not a ‘behind the desk’ job.”

  • Lead replication of complex field failures using self-designed test and investigative approaches, collaborating with peers to validate findings and conclusions.
  • Analyze testing and failure data to identify probable root causes and determine whether changing failure modes require revised validation criteria or test strategies.
  • Share technical context and lessons from validation challenges, failure modes, and quality issues across product categories and teams.
  • Collaborate with Field Quality to correlate laboratory results with warranty and field-performance data.
  • Recommend alternative testing methodologies to Design teams using the company's validation methods and institutional knowledge.
  • Aid in developing new test machines.
  • Own and maintain existing test equipment.
  • Modify existing test methodologies to address new product configurations, evolving design risks, and validation requirements.
  • Create test methods for unique product risks and deliver quantifiable data to support engineering and product decisions.
