About The Position

The Test Engineer II contributes to research, development, testing, and sustaining engineering activities for Iridium services. The role focuses on verifying the reliability and robustness of Iridium products and communication services, while also developing and maintaining test automation. The position works with software, hardware, and system development engineers and supports the integration and operation of system and laboratory hardware and software. It is primarily office-based and computer-focused, with a hybrid policy requiring employees to work in an Iridium office at least four days per week. The position supports or is exposed to a U.S. government contract, so applicants must be U.S. citizens. The employee must be willing and able to travel up to 15 days annually and be on call for operational issues.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
At least 2 years of relevant experience with test execution and analysis, test automation, and/or software development.
Intermediate knowledge of cloud computing services and cloud infrastructure.
Intermediate knowledge of services such as storage, compute services, containers, and virtual servers.
Knowledge of software languages such as Python, C, C++, C#, or Java.
Solid understanding of Linux and/or Unix operating systems.
Strong communication skills and the ability to clearly present information and ideas.
Ability to prioritize tasks, identify and correct mistakes, and ask for help when needed.
U.S. citizenship, because the position directly performs under, supports, or is exposed to a U.S. government contract.
Willingness and ability to travel up to 15 days annually.
Willingness and ability to be on call to support operational issues.

Nice To Haves

Hands-on experience with software management tools such as JIRA, GIT, and/or Bamboo.
Experience with integrated development environments such as PyCharm, Spyder, or Pydev.
Experience with machine virtualization, specifically VMware Desktop and ESXi.
Experience with databases such as Oracle, MySQL, and/or SQL Server.
Knowledge of network switches and routers.
Knowledge of space systems and orbital analysis.
Knowledge of Agile development methodology.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with software, hardware, and system development engineers to ensure high product quality.
Decompose requirements into verifiable test objectives.
Integrate, maintain, and operate system hardware, laboratory hardware, and software systems.
Implement and maintain automated test systems and software for communication products.
Develop scripts or systems to automatically test and validate products, collect test artifacts, produce test metrics, and generate reports.
Recreate and isolate reported software or hardware defects using test infrastructure and document non-compliances.
Research and assist with implementing hardware upgrades to ground infrastructure and test systems.
Help maintain and execute test automation for feature, defect, and regression testing.
Help maintain configuration management of test automation software and scripts.
Use industry-standard tools and software, including Elasticsearch/Logstash/Kibana, Amazon Web Services, CI/CD DevOps pipelines, and containers.
