About The Position

The Test Development Engineering (TDE) Team at Teradyne’s North Reading, MA headquarters is responsible for developing the test strategy, test equipment, test software, self-test software and procedures for new product introductions. We are currently seeking a Test Development Engineering Manager and leader with strong coaching and communication skills to oversee all aspects of test development supporting our Defense & Aerospace products. This group consists of test development and hardware verification engineers of various experience levels, and the role will manage 8-10 individual contributors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline with 5+ years of relevant test development or hardware/test engineering experience
  • 2+ years of leadership experience as a people manager, technical lead, or project lead, with a demonstrated ability to coach and develop engineers
  • Knowledge of and experience with Automated Test Equipment (ATE) and manufacturing test processes
  • Knowledge of C / C++ / C#, .NET framework
  • Experience with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, and waveform generators
  • Knowledge of common circuit board test methodologies such as In-circuit test, AOI, X-ray, and functional test)
  • Knowledge of standard project management concepts and the ability to manage tradeoffs across cost, cycle time, productivity, and predictability
  • Experience with Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Codex, or equivalent AI agentic tooling
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills are needed to succeed in this position
  • Excellent verbal, written, organizational, analytical and PC skills

Responsibilities

  • Hire, mentor, develop, and retain test development engineering staff, cultivating a diverse and inclusive, collaborative team culture where everyone has impact, feels engaged and motivated, and can grow on their own personal journey
  • Determine staffing levels and the skills needed to satisfy all new product introduction and production test commitments, and balance them across concurrent projects
  • Evaluating staffing mix between in-house and outsourced to best suit the needs of the team and the projects.
  • Direct the work of engineers developing and improving test processes for Analog, Digital, and/or Optical test equipment including test strategy, interface design, test station design, test software, fixturing, software tools, documentation, and process control capabilities
  • Review test strategies developed by the team to ensure completeness and feasibility of execution.
  • Own the schedule, scope, and resource tradeoffs required to integrate new test processes into production on time and with quality
  • Serve as an escalation point for factory operations on troubleshooting and debug of hardware or test software, and for customer-facing and production support issues
  • Drive the use of metrics and defect trend analysis to influence testing direction, going beyond individual defect investigation and characterization
  • Partner with design, manufacturing, quality, and program teams to support new and existing products throughout the development cycle
  • Ensure that production test station hardware and software meet Cyber Security requirements
  • Ensure calibration processes are Z540.1 and ISO 17025 compliant
  • Establish and maintain engineering development processes throughout the product lifecycle, and evaluate new tooling, automation, and AI-assisted workflows to separate the trendy from the difference makers
