About The Position

Quest Global delivers world-class end-to-end engineering solutions by leveraging deep industry knowledge and digital expertise. This role is for a Test & Commissioning Engineer specializing in Generator Control and Protection Systems, also known as Test Field Advisors (TFA). The customer factory specializes in engineering and manufacturing electrical equipment for thermal power plants, including combustion turbines and combined cycle power plants. Due to a rapid increase in overseas projects, especially in the U.S. driven by data center construction, the team is expanding to meet the growing demand for skilled Test Field Advisors (TFA). This position requires travel to various locations within the USA for Site Testing & Commissioning, as well as an initial 4 to 6-month travel to Japan for Product & FAT Training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
  • 2–5 years of experience in testing and commissioning electrical systems for thermal power plants
  • Hands-on experience with generator control systems, excitation systems, and protection relays
  • Strong understanding of generator main circuit, synchronization, and interlock logic
  • Experience in site testing procedures, including power receiving and energization, loop checks and interface verification, interlock and phase relation tests, load rejection and performance tests
  • Familiarity with grid compliance standards (e.g., NERC, IEEE)
  • Experience with AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator), Excitation Systems, SFC (Static Frequency Converter), Synchronization Panels, Protection Relays
  • Experience with Protection Relays: 87G (Differential), 64G (Stator Earth Fault), 51V (Voltage Independent Overcurrent), 40 (Loss of Field)
  • English communication skills for technical discussions and reporting
  • Ability to work in multicultural teams and adapt to overseas site conditions
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting under time constraints
  • Maintain valid driver’s license and passport

Nice To Haves

  • Commissioning of combined cycle power plants
  • Knowledge of Static Frequency Converter (SFC) operation and troubleshooting
  • Experience with SCADA/DCS systems integration
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and logic drawings
  • Previous overseas commissioning experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform testing of generator-related panels and circuits at site
  • Conduct interface checks between panels
  • Commission generators and associated systems
  • Execute site tests before and after GT (Gas Turbine) start-up
  • Perform Open Circuit/Short Circuit Tests, Load Rejection, PSS (Power System Stabilizer) Tuning, Loop Checking, Logic/Interlock Verification, and Limiters tests
  • Ensure NERC compliance for special tests required by grid operators
