About The Position

Escort race winners and other horses designated by stewards to the test barn for testing. This role ensures no unscrupulous behavior occurs during the walk to the test barn, such as the administration of drugs or foreign substances. The escort also assists in the safety of the horses during this process and is responsible for catching any horses that may get loose. Additionally, the escort carries the groom apron bag to and from the holding barn to the winners circle for every race, maintains their own pony horses, and assists outriders with loose horses between races.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Must have at least two trained, sound, and athletic horses in the necessary level of fitness capable of supporting an outrider in his duties.
• Must be able to work effectively with peers, staff members, and regulatory agency personnel.
• Strong written and oral communication skills required.
• Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Knowledge of the rules and regulations as specified in the OHRC rule book.
