About The Position

SLR Consulting (Americas) is seeking a full-time Terrestrial Ecologist to join their team in Vancouver, BC. This role is crucial for achieving the company's goal of 'Making Sustainability Happen'. The Ecologist will conduct field work, participate in wildlife surveys and species-at-risk assessments, and contribute to technical report preparation and permitting activities. SLR Consulting is a large, international firm with a focus on environmental and sustainability services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in ecology, biology, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Membership (or eligible for membership) as a Biologist in Training (BIT) and working toward full RPBio status.
  • Familiarity with field sampling and assessment methods.
  • Knowledge of BC species and ecosystems.
  • Availability and flexibility to travel for fieldwork.
  • Wilderness/backcountry experience; comfortable working in a remote field environment.
  • Proficiency with MS Word and Excel, managing large datasets, and conducting analyses using R or other statistical software.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License in BC (or equivalent) with a clean driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Bird monitoring experience – acoustic and visual identification, surveying protocols.
  • Working knowledge of BC and federal legislation and policies.
  • Experience or familiarity with BC species at risk, Riparian Areas Regulation requirements, and Environmental Assessment Office procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field work including environmental sampling and assessments: some local, and some remote requiring travel for up to two weeks at a time.
  • Participate in wildlife surveys, including bats, amphibians, ungulates, breeding birds, and raptors, as well as wildlife salvage operations such as amphibian stream and pond salvages.
  • Participate in species-at-risk surveys, habitat assessments, and environmental monitoring, under the guidance of senior staff members.
  • Assist with desktop analysis, fieldwork, and technical report preparation.
  • Assist with permitting and environmental assessment activities as required.
  • Collaborate with project team members and contribute to multidisciplinary project deliverables.
