About The Position

Responsible for being the initial point of contact, airport wide for operational needs. This role serves as the airport's real-time command post, monitoring operations across O'Hare's Common Use premises, including bag makeup, boarding gates, ticket counters, baggage claim, and recheck counters. The position also tracks Federal Inspection Services (FIS) operations and coordinates with Tower staff to ensure smooth airport operations. It involves assessing operational performance, identifying potential issues, and generating daily operation reports. This is a hands-on role that requires flexibility and the ability to respond to various airport demands.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a basic yellow driving stripe for O'Hare Airport.
  • Ability to drive on the airfield.
  • Ability to maintain a clean driving record.
  • Associate's degree (A.S.) minimum from a two-year college or university.
  • 1–2 years of related airport operations/customer service experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Sharp reasoning ability: Comfortable defining problems, gathering data, and drawing solid conclusions from technical instructions, diagrams, and shifting variables.
  • Working math skills: Comfortable with figures, proportions, percentages, and basic algebra/geometry.
  • Computer proficiency: Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet, internet, and database software.
  • Situational awareness and professionalism that holds up under pressure.
  • Sound judgment when it counts.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Responsibilities

  • Be the go-to during irregular operations — when weather, delays, or disruptions hit, you're coordinating the response.
  • Monitor day-to-day operations across airport-wide Common Use premises, keeping everything running on schedule.
  • Oversee ticket counter, bag makeup, baggage claim, and recheck counter assignments on Common Use premises.
  • Keep eyes on hold room and gate operations through Common Use devices, making sure passenger flow stays smooth.
  • Track F.I.S. (Federal Inspection Services) operations related to international passenger processing.
  • Coordinate directly with Tower staff to keep the full Common Use operation aligned airport-wide.
  • Assess Common Use operational performance and spot issues before they become delays.
  • Generate daily operation reports that keep leadership informed and operations accountable.
  • Step up wherever needed — this role flexes with whatever the airport throws at it.
