About The Position

The Pier IX Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant transfer of bulk materials from railcars to vessels. This position supports terminal operations through the operation, inspection, maintenance, and housekeeping of equipment and facilities associated with material handling activities. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, operational excellence, teamwork, and reliability while working in a dynamic industrial environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of work experience required.
  • Demonstrated history of safe work practices, reliability, and quality performance required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) as required by U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) regulations.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Basic computer skills, to include Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to identify operational issues and report them promptly.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn new equipment, processes, and technologies.
  • Frequently stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach.
  • Operate equipment controls and hand tools.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Work at elevated heights and access equipment using ladders and stairs.
  • Meet OSHA medical requirements for respirator use.
  • Possess adequate vision, including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an industrial, marine terminal, manufacturing, construction, or material-handling environment preferred.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment such as front-end loaders, bulldozers, forklifts, or similar industrial equipment preferred.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate terminal equipment used in the transfer and handling of bulk materials.
  • Learn and demonstrate proficiency in operating, inspecting, maintaining, and cleaning terminal equipment and systems.
  • Follow all company safety policies, operating procedures, and environmental regulations.
  • Identify, report, and help correct unsafe conditions, equipment deficiencies, and workplace hazards.
  • Perform routine equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance activities.
  • Maintain terminal-wide housekeeping standards to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Assist with vessel loading, railcar unloading, and other terminal operations as assigned.
  • Accurately complete required operational, safety, and inspection documentation.
  • Work effectively with supervisors, coworkers, contractors, and vessel personnel.
  • Report to work as scheduled and maintain dependable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support terminal operations.
