As a valued team member, the Bronx Terminal Operator will work in a team environment, alongside leadership, to optimize efficiency while focusing on safety on every shift. You will have the opportunity to execute a variety of operations including but not limited to taking in and managing liquid petroleum barge receipts, conducting tank to tank transfers, assisting and training customers to load product, preventative maintenance, customer service and general upkeep of the terminal. Work is primarily performed outdoors in a maritime environment and occasional travel to other Sprague terminals may be required. Through on-the-job training, a successful terminal operator will have access to apply for promotional opportunities throughout our entire network of terminals.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Proficient in basic math, including fractions.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical trades preferred
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Must take and pass Certificate of Fitness test, NYC Fire Department
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a valid TWIC card.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of blueprint reading, piping diagrams, boiler and fuel specifications preferred
  • Past experience in bulk fuel storage plants preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Loading and offloading of vessels and monitoring the movement of product
  • Providing rack customer assistance by educating drivers regarding paperwork and proper loading procedures.
  • Gauging 15 oil tanks daily (heights up to 65 feet) at least once per day.
  • Testing product samples in the terminal Lab Daily
  • Entering and tracking inventory information into the Guardian system.
  • Completing two Detex rounds per shift by foot, totaling 33 security checkpoints.
  • Maintaining and repairing storage tanks, dock and loading rack including, draining loading arms, cleaning strainers, installing pump sets etc.
  • Providing general facilities maintenance including snowplowing, shoveling, painting, yard clean up and mechanical maintenance of vehicles.
