About The Position

Ensure that all aspects of pupil transportation operations at the assigned terminal provide excellent customer service that focuses on safe and efficient transportation of students. Supervise, schedule/assign work to, and evaluate all assigned terminal personnel. Participate in bus driver negotiations. Serve in the place of the Director of Transportation in their absence.

Requirements

High school diploma and advanced courses in business, management, or transportation operations beyond high school.
Six (6) years of experience in fleet operations, student transportation, and the operation of pupil transportation vehicles with three (3) of those years supervising employees.
Experience with pupil transportation, including students with special needs.
Intermediate knowledge of typical office equipment such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, email, etc.
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Intermediate knowledge of GPS-Based Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) systems.
Intermediate knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT), FMCSA, CDE, and CDL rules and regulations.
Intermediate knowledge of bus driver/organized labor negotiations.
Intermediate organization skills.
Advanced English language skills.
Advanced oral and written communication skills.
Advanced interpersonal relations skills.
Ability to meet Colorado School District Self-Insurance Pool insurability requirements.
Ability to de-escalate confrontational bus drivers, bus assistants, parents/guardians, and students.
Ability to work alone and collaboratively with others.
Ability to work in a collaborative environment and interact positively and constructively with supervisors, staff members, students, the community, and any other District stakeholders.
Ability to demonstrate concern for student safety and customer service.
Criminal background check and fingerprinting required for hire.
First Aid/CPR certification.

Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Valid Colorado Class B commercial driver’s license with PS endorsements.

Responsibilities

Coordinate pupil transportation operations at the assigned terminal, including direct oversight of student behavior management and bus driver supervision.
Matrix oversight of route management, safety and training, vehicle maintenance, and dispatch operations at assigned terminal.
Supervise, schedule/assign work to, and evaluate all assigned terminal personnel.
Establish operational priorities with the shop foreman.
Provide work direction, training, and problem-solving assistance to less experienced employees.
Apply progressive discipline principles as needed.
Manage all aspects of employee termination.
Carry out performance reviews.
Ensure compliance with State and federal laws and regulations regarding pupil transportation.
Conduct periodic checks of buses.
Respond to parent/guardian and school inquiries and concerns.
Act as the primary communication conduit from the Director of Transportation to department personnel.
Manage the budget for the terminal within District and departmental guidelines.
Oversee and participate in the planning and execution of emergency and inclement weather procedures and emergency evacuation drills.
Attend and represent the Transportation Department at meetings, seminars and workshops.
Participate in organized labor negotiations and grievance processes for transportation personnel as needed.
Serve in the place of the Director of Transportation and complete all job duties and responsibilities in their absence.
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
