Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience required. Equivalent years of experience are defined as one year of professional experience for each year of college requested.
  • 10+ years in Operations including Customer Service, Fleet Management, or Load Planning required
  • 5+ years general leadership experience required
  • Knowledge of DOT hours of service and how they apply to a driver
  • XPM / Qtops (AS400)
  • Customer & Personal Service/Building Relationships - knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes meeting quality standards for services
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, P&L management, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
  • Knowledge of electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications

Responsibilities

  • Lead P&L and all headcount for an assigned terminal. Oversee all activities tied to ensure assigned terminal operates efficiently and at optimal capacity for all the company’s Lines of Business and customers tied to the assigned terminal.
  • Ensures that the highest quality of customer service is provided at the assigned terminal location.
  • Ensures appropriate support and staffing at each terminal.
  • Lead the team at the terminal to ensure a high performance, driver centric-oriented work environment that supports identifying and implementing new and creative ideas that enhance profitability/operating ratio results.
  • Lead and participate in strategic planning for operations; profit & loss, utilization of assets, and customer relationships (internal/external). This will include establishing and executing short and long-range planning to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Perform financial analyses; remain apprised of financial impacts (e.g. both driver and non-driver employee pay, equipment costs, etc.) and identify opportunities for improvement, develop and implement cost-effective solutions.
  • Responsible for the leadership and development of direct and in-direct employees including, but not limited to: Strategic planning in regards to staffing models, hiring/termination, and performance management for all employees – including both driver and non-driver employees.
  • Partner with necessary stakeholders to design and implement appropriate training.
  • Continuously promote a safe work environment by regularly identifying safety opportunities.
  • Monitor the terminal to ensure that all associates comply with administrative policy and procedures, safe work habits, contract administration, and federal, state, and DOT regulations.
  • Establish standards for measurement and accountability at the Terminal level that will create both a positive competitiveness between fleet operations. Those should include ensuring there is an effective yard management system.
  • Monitor employee and Driver performance through KPI and soft-skill management. Partner with other groups/functions such as HR, Safety, Orientation, Maintenance/XRA to ensure optimal solutions for all stakeholders - internal and external.
  • Collaborate with recruiting and driver development to ensure hiring needs are met.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders and other departments, including Building Maintenance, on service center projects that may include, but not limited to: site construction, maintenance, relocation, or signage. Ensure the terminal is well maintained and is safe, clean, and appealing to drivers and customers.
  • Instill a culture of superior service that extends to the US Xpress customer base within the Terminal facilities and personnel.
  • Lead teamwork and team building with other operational groups including Load Planning, Account Management, Pricing and Sales for quality customer service and to support company goals; each manager will be aligned with the appropriate Regional Customer Service Manager and Load Planning Manager.
