About The Position

Emerson College’s Department of Performing Arts invites applications for a full-time term faculty position in Stage Management for its BFA in Design and Stage Management. The appointment begins August 19, 2027, with mandatory orientation on August 19 and 20, 2027. This is an in-person teaching position based at Emerson’s Boston campus. Term faculty appointments begin with a one-year contract and are renewable, with the opportunity to advance to longer multi-year terms based on periodic performance review.

The position carries a 3/3 course load, or six classes over the academic year. Teaching may include Stage Management Course Sequence 1–4, mentoring colloquium, Arts Management courses, and Production Management. Service includes leadership of the Stage Management concentration, academic advising, recruitment and retention activities, career-placement support and mentorship, and other service assigned by the area and department.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree or MFA in Stage Management or a related area.
• At least five years of professional experience in theatre and one or more of the following forms: opera, dance, immersive, tours, or events.
• Significant experience teaching Stage Management at the college level.
• Membership in Actor’s Equity and USITT.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in Arts Management and Production Management.
• Affiliation with IATSE, AGMA, or other professional organizations.

Responsibilities

• Teach six classes over the academic year, with potential courses including Stage Management Course Sequence 1–4, mentoring colloquium, Arts Management, and Production Management.
• Provide leadership to the Stage Management concentration.
• Provide academic advising.
• Participate in recruitment, interviews of prospective students, and retention initiatives.
• Support and mentor students in career placement.
• Complete other service as assigned by the area and department.
