About The Position

The Department of Computer Science at San José State University invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position in Computer Science (with a preference for applicants in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science or related areas), for Fall 2025. The positions will be required to teach a variety of required and elective courses in Computer Science and in Data Science. The Department of Computer Science offers BS and MS in Computer Science and BS in Data Science. We also offer BS in Computer Science and Linguistics (jointly with the Dept. of Linguistics and Language Development, MS in Data Science (jointly with the Dept. of Math/Stat), MS in Bioinformatics, and support BS in Software Engineering (curriculum jointly administrated with the Dept. of Computer Engineering). The faculty members are excellent teacher scholars with rich publication records in the areas of machine learning, data science, information security, mobile networking, social networks, bioinformatics, etc. The Department, including both faculty and students, enjoys rich interaction and collaboration with Silicon Valley. Requirements

Applicants must have earned their Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field, and have demonstrated excellence in teaching and scholarship.
Applicants must demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a socially and economically diverse student population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience.

Teaching, research, and/or industry experiences in the following areas: Software Systems, Architecture, and Big Data, all with an eye towards incorporating AI into these areas.

Responsibilities

The department's faculty members are expected to teach in-person, supervise, and advise students in both the undergraduate and graduate programs, and to establish a successful research program related to his/her field of interest.
The candidate will participate in shared governance, usually in department, college, and university committees and other service assignments.
The candidate must demonstrate awareness and experience understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity - in age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation - through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
