About The Position

Under general supervision, assist the Tennis Instructors with instruction, supervision, and maintenance of tennis facilities. This role involves teaching basic tennis skills to youth, assisting with lessons for various age groups, setting up and breaking down equipment, monitoring participants for safety, providing supervision, encouraging good sportsmanship, and performing light maintenance duties to ensure the cleanliness and order of the tennis facility and equipment. The position also requires supporting the relationship between the City of Galveston and the public through courteous behavior and maintaining confidentiality. Employees may be required to work during emergencies to ensure public safety and restore vital services.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Must have necessary knowledge and skills to interact and supervise the participation of patrons, and students.
  • Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License.
  • Basic knowledge of tennis rules and equipment.
  • Ability to work well with children, teens, and adults in a recreational setting.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow directions and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Reliable and punctual.

Nice To Haves

  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).

Responsibilities

  • Teach basic tennis skills to youth ages 5 to 13 during summer session only Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM until 12:00 PM.
  • Assist instructors with group and individual tennis lessons for ages 5 to 17.
  • Set up and break down equipment for practices, clinics, and events.
  • Monitor participants to ensure safety and proper use of equipment.
  • Provide general supervision during lessons and open court times.
  • Encourage participation and promote good sportsmanship.
  • Perform light maintenance duties such as sweeping courts, checking nets, and organizing supplies.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order of tennis facility and equipment.
  • Supports the relationship between the City of Galveston and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
  • Employees may at any time be required to work in order to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services, in the event of an emergency.
