About The Position

HART Hubs are community-based care hubs designed to address mental health, addiction and housing needs for people experiencing homelessness. They provide integrated care, offering a wide range of services such as primary care, mental health services, addiction care and employment supports. With targeted community outreach and rapid referral pathways, HART Hubs aim to support individuals with complex needs, helping them recover, achieve housing stability, and inclusion. Services and Housing In the Province (SHIP) is pleased to partner with (CMHA Peel Dufferin) and various agencies in the Peel Region, to offer services to the local community at the new Brampton based Homelessness and Recovery Treatment (HART) Hub. Achieving our vision means we’re recruiting people who are passionate about driving change and delivering evidence-based, responsive and affirming care that meet people where they are. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, the Tenancy Specialist supports both landlords and tenants within the HART Hub program, working from a Housing First approach to help individuals access and maintain supportive housing, income, and community resources. This role is part of a multi-disciplinary intensive case management team and assists the Supportive Housing department with building registry and retention of scattered site housing resources. The Tenancy Specialist coordinates housing resources through a client-centered model, collaborating with clients, support teams, and landlords.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Social Work, Social Services, Health Services, or equivalent
  • 1+ years’ experience providing housing support to individuals with mental health challenges
  • Proficiency in the Residential Tenancies Act and Landlord/Tenant Board legislation and RGI knowledge
  • Understanding of the Housing First philosophy
  • Understanding of homelessness and at risk of homelessness
  • Excellent time management, prioritization abilities , and communication
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft software (e.g. Excel, Word, etc.)
  • A valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s license and a vehicle with adequate insurance coverage is required
  • Valid certification in CPI, CPR, First Aid, and Assist is mandatory

Responsibilities

  • Use Housing First Principles to assist clients experiencing homelessness with housing search, preparation, and retention
  • Completes housing searches for clients in collaboration with Hart Hub housing workers, works with potential region landlords and complete unit viewings with clients
  • Maintain regular communication and meetings to track client outcomes and housing opportunities
  • Enact SHIP’s housing engagement strategy and landlord collaboration approach
  • Provide conflict resolution and mediation between client and landlord to avert potential eviction using an Alternative Dispute Resolution approach
  • Participate in team meetings, consultations, community tables, and case conferences
  • Complete all documentation required for move-in (Tenancy Agreements, ODSP Pay Direct Forms, Key Agreement Forms, as applicable).
  • Track arrears and assist tenants in developing repayment plans if applicable
  • Record Notices of Admission and Vacancy in SHIP’s internal database; ensure data entry into the Rent Administration System (Arcori)
  • Run monthly arrears reports and complete RGI calculations
  • Adhere to agency Health & Safety Program and Client Safety Framework
  • Perform additional duties as required/delegated by Management
  • You may be required to administer naloxone in response to suspected opioid overdoses, and must complete appropriate training to recognize overdose symptoms, safely administer naloxone via nasal spray or injection, and follow emergency protocols including contacting emergency services. You will receive training within the first eight weeks of employment.
