About The Position

This temporary position supports research efforts in cardiology and cardiac surgery within the Clinical Sciences department, working closely with Dr. Arai. The role contributes to ongoing research projects through laboratory operations, data collection and analysis, and preparation of scholarly materials. This is a 3-month non-student hourly appointment, with the possibility of extension based on operational needs and funding availability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., biomedical sciences, biology, bioengineering, or similar)
  • 5 years or more years of relevant professional or academic research experience OR Master’s degree in a related field and at least 2 years of relevant research experience; OR PhD in a related field with no experience
  • Experience with laboratory techniques such as electrophoresis, protein extraction, western blotting, cell culture, or blood processing.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Exemplary organizational and time management skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience with data entry, management, and basic analysis (e.g., Excel or similar statistical/qualitative tools).
  • Familiarity with data management practices and research compliance standards.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the date of hire; visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

  • Experience with data analysis software (e.g., R, Python, SPSS, or similar)

Responsibilities

  • Maintain lab functionality including ordering supplies, preparing media/solutions, managing equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct molecular, cellular, and clinical research experiments; process human and animal tissue/blood samples.
  • Support protocol management (IACUC, AARF, PARF), maintain SOPs, and ensure proper documentation and reporting requirements are met.
  • Enter, manage, and analyze research data; assist in interpretation and organization of results.
  • Contribute to manuscript and grant preparation, coordinate with lab personnel, and assist with presentations and publications.
