About The Position

This is a temporary position for a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) who will work in the Golden Valley office and travel to programs throughout the Twin Cities and Greater Metro region. The role involves providing medical guidance, triage, and direction to program management and direct support professionals. The nurse will also supervise a small team of LPNs, teach medication administration classes (including some Saturdays), and conduct on-site training for medical procedures at group homes. Audits of medication logs, health progress notes, and other medical documentation will be performed at various group homes and the day program. The nurse will also act as an advocate at medical appointments and assist with medical-related concerns for individuals served.

Requirements

  • Current State Licensed Registered Nurse
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English communication
  • At least 2 years of experience working within the field of Nursing
  • Successful clearance of Department of Human Services background check
  • Successful clearance of Motor Vehicle Background Check and acceptable driving record per Company Policy
  • Skilled at delivering and teaching a class, “Medication Administration” to new hires and for review purposes with current staff
  • Proven ability to provide quality patient care and be an advocate to patients
  • Approachable demeanor with ability to answer medical related questions from staff, while providing a teaching approach through the communication
  • Strong organizational, reasoning and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional inter-personal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical guidance, triage, and direction to Program Management and Direct Support Professionals regarding medical concerns or issues of persons served.
  • Supervise a small team of LPNs.
  • Teach medication administration class to Direct Support Professionals and management staff, including some Saturday classes.
  • Conduct on-site training of medical procedures at group homes, including but not limited to catheters, diabetic procedures, DNI/DNR.
  • Conduct audits of medication logs, health progress notes, medications, policy and procedure, appointments and orders, and medical documentation review at group homes and the day program.
  • Act as an advocate as needed and requested at medical appointments for persons served.
  • Assist with medical-related concerns/communications for persons served with medical providers.
