Temporary Laboratory and Research Technician (Soil and Crop Sciences); Ithaca, New York
About The Position
The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) is a pioneer of purpose-driven science and Cornell University’s second-largest college. The Soil and Crop Sciences Section addresses the challenge of developing environmentally sustainable agricultural systems to produce food for a growing world population, mitigating the impacts of climate change, increasing nutrient use efficiency and improving soil health. As the Temporary Laboratory and Research Technician, you will be part of the Cornell Soil Health Team’s development of soil management strategies to address laboratory-measured soil constraints.
Requirements
- High School Diploma and 1+ year of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Prior experience in a laboratory setting.
- Prior knowledge of safety protocols in a lab setting and proper waste handling.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite – including Word, PowerPoint and Excel and familiarity with Outlook.
- Ability to communicate verbally and written with faculty, staff and students.
- Attention to detail, ability to repeat light repetitive tasks.

Responsibilities
- Lab analyses.
- Weighing soil samples.
- Sieving and grinding samples.
- Preparing samples for various analyses.
- Data entry.
- Washing laboratory glassware.
- Weighing cans.
- Maintaining a clean laboratory.
- Adhere to all disease control and laboratory safety protocols and collect lab waste for disposal.
- Complete training on lab safety and proper handling of chemicals as required by CALS EHS.
