About The Position

The School of Music offers a comprehensive range of programs, including concentrations in Music Education, Instrumental Performance, Vocal Performance, Composition, and Jazz Studies. Performance specializations include voice, as well as instrumental areas such as wind, brass, string, percussion, and piano. The School of Music is recognized for its continued growth and serves a diverse student population from across California’s Central Valley region. Studio Instructor for applied lessons needed. Additional courses may be assigned as needed to support students’ educational objectives, including Musicology, Music Education, and Music Theory. The department seeks qualified candidate(s) to teach undergraduate courses such as: Applied Faculty Lessons Or other courses, as needed , to support the current students educational objectives. Temporary faculty members are responsible for adherence to and implementation of university and system-wide policies as directed per Academic Policy Manual 306 , paragraph 2. Instructors are responsible for the preparation, delivery, conducting, proctoring, and grading (as appropriate) lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and midterm and final exams. All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (i.e. asynchronous, synchronous, in-person, or hybrid). Please be advised that an appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and California Faculty Association. These provisions state the “Order of Work,” or the order in which available courses must be assigned to faculty, starting with tenure line faculty and ending with new lecturer appointees. Appointees will be required to demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States (Fresno State is not a sponsoring agency for Temporary Faculty positions).

Requirements

  • A Master's degree in with an emphasis in the area you are being considered or closely related field. In lieu of this emphasis the candidate may demonstrate substantial experience in the related area.
  • The candidate applying for private studio teaching must demonstrate a high level of performance proficiency and maintain an active career as an accomplished instrumentalist or vocalist, with proven expertise as both a soloist and ensemble performer.
  • The candidate applying for teaching undergraduate/graduate courses will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, delivering structured, curriculum-based instruction that support student learning, critical engagement, and academic development within a collegiate setting as well as maintain an active professional career as an accomplished instrumentalist or vocalist, with established expertise in both solo and ensemble performance
  • Must demonstrate the ability to effectively recruit and retain students.
  • Must be able to maintain excellent relationships with both public and private educators within the relevant service area.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds
