About the position
Smart design is seeking a temporary systems engineer for a potential 3-month engagement, with the possibility of extension or transitioning to a full-time position. The ideal candidate should have a strong interest in developing cutting-edge technology and working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams. They should possess the ability to solve technical and human-centric problems alongside engineers and designers. The role requires a solid understanding of digital and physical fundamentals, as well as experience with agile processes in software development. Additionally, proficiency in building mixed prototypes and familiarity with software, electrical, mechanical, and design aspects of hardware are desired.
Responsibilities
- Ability to stretch into adjacent discipline (For example: Focus on embedded development but able to do some mechanical engineering work.)
- Interest and ability to work with various technical and non-technical disciplines
- Attention to project goals and ability to work through technical tradeoffs for feasibility and scheduling purposes
- A solid grasp of digital and physical fundamentals
- Understanding of agile processes in software development
- Experience with version control as applied to software development
- Efficiency in building mixed (digital/physical) prototypes of various complexity
- Familiarity with working on software, electrical and mechanical aspects of hardware
- Interest in mixed (electrical, mechanical, software, design) projects and systems
- Working with microcontrollers on development boards as well a custom boards
- Working and specifying LED lighting power supplies and controls
- Assembly of wire harnesses & connectors
- KiCad
- Working and installing cameras and optics to custom hardware
- Connecting custom hardware to power supplies
- Hardware development including circuit design, analysis, verification, fabrication and assembly

- Onsite position in Brooklyn, minimum 4 days per week
