About The Position

The temporary Dean of Students supports the overall operation of the school by coordinating assigned student activities, services, and systems that promote a safe, orderly, and positive learning environment. This position assists in the implementation of student support structures, school policies, and behavioral expectations to ensure a productive educational climate.

Requirements

  • Rhode Island Secondary Teacher Certification required
  • Thorough understanding of school operations and secondary education systems
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to coordinate support services and campus operations
  • Ability to implement and uphold policies and procedures consistently
  • Ability to collect, interpret, and use data to support decision-making
  • Ability to work effectively with students, staff, families, and community members
  • Strong public relations skills and professional judgment
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful classroom teaching experience

Responsibilities

  • Promote a positive, caring, and inclusive climate for learning
  • Foster respectful relationships among students, staff, and families
  • Ensure equitable and consistent application of student expectations and supports
  • Help implement a school-wide student discipline system that encourages positive behavior
  • Ensure school rules are clearly communicated, consistently applied, and fairly enforced
  • Conduct student, parent, and staff conferences regarding behavioral and school-related concerns
  • Support restorative and corrective approaches to student discipline
  • Supervise school operations in the absence of the Principal
  • Ensure adequate supervision of students during non-instructional times
  • Assist with monitoring student attendance and collaborate with attendance staff on follow-up interventions
  • Assist with safety inspections and coordination of safety drills and procedures
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, parents, and community stakeholders
  • Participate in campus improvement planning with staff, families, and community members
  • Articulate the school’s mission and support community engagement efforts
  • Encourage and support parent and community involvement in school initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and School Committee policies
  • Support equitable and consistent implementation of school procedures and expectations
  • Use data to inform decision-making and improve student outcomes
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or district leadership
