About The Position

The TIMSS & PIRLS International Study Center at Boston College is seeking an experienced Temporary Copy Editor for a part-time, on-site position. This role involves editing chapters for the PIRLS 2026 Encyclopedia, which provides an overview of national contexts for learning to read in participating countries. The chapters are authored by representatives from each country. The Copy Editor will work with the Associate Research Director and other staff, performing related duties as required. The position requires considerable experience in proofreading and revising copy for accuracy, clarity, style, and organization, adhering to established style guidelines, and rewriting copy while respecting the author's voice. The successful candidate must be able to work quickly and accurately under deadlines and be familiar with the publication production process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English, communications, journalism, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in copy editing
  • Experience editing copy for accuracy, clarity, style, and organization
  • Ability to synthesize material from a variety of written and oral sources
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the use of the Tracking Changes feature
  • Must work well under pressure and conform to deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Edit the PIRLS 2026 Encyclopedia chapters

Benefits

  • Pay Range: $35 – $40 per hour, commensurate with experience.
