Temporary Bremner Editing Center Assistant

University of KansasLawrence, KS
Onsite

About The Position

Under the guidance of the Bremner Editing Center Coordinator, the assistant will work individually with student writers editing their assignment, noting areas that need improvement and why, and explaining how to recognize and fix errors and structural problems. Maintain a presence in the editing center when the Coordinator is unavailable. Attend JMC Study Hall sessions to assist students, as scheduled between candidate and Coordinator. Students in the School of Journalism visit the Bremner Center for one-on-one help with editing their writing, including assignments, cover letters and application essays. They must be finished with a draft before they come in: The help is with revision and editing, not the initial writing process (though there is often lots of discussion about that as well). The assistant will work with student writers step by step through a piece of writing, pointing out what should be changed and explaining changes to correct mistakes and structural issues.
