About The Position

The Akron Zoo is seeking a Temporary Animal Keeper in the Education Department for a six-month paid position (40 hours per week). The candidate should have excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and a mature attitude to work exclusively with the Animal Ambassadors. This position is responsible to provide husbandry, training, and enrichment; as well as providing public programing to a variety of audiences on zoo grounds with the bulk of the programing occurring during the spring and summer season. Successful candidates must be comfortable speaking to audiences of all ages.

Requirements

• Proof of a current Tetanus shot, and negative TB test needed before start date.
• Must be available weekends, holidays, and for a flexible schedule.
• Must be able to meet all other requirements of the job.

Nice To Haves

• A minimum of six months of animal care experience at an AZA facility.
• A four-year degree.
• A minimum of three years of progressive work experience.
• Prior show/educational experience.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Mature attitude.
• Comfortable speaking to audiences of all ages.

Responsibilities

• Provide husbandry, training, and enrichment for Animal Ambassadors.
• Provide public programming to a variety of audiences on zoo grounds.
• Work exclusively with the Animal Ambassadors.
