About The Position

The Glass Tempering Loader performs a 2-3 step process to load glass to be tempered to fulfill Quaker's window and door orders. The position will load glass, check tempering stamps, inspect raw glass, use the seamer optimization software, and discuss any tempering recipe changes needed with the Temper Operator.

Requirements

  • Proficient knowledge of the different types of glass
  • Must be able to accurately read a tape measure
  • Observe safety and security policies and procedures, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment including but not limited to eye and toe protection. Steal or composite toed footwear required.
  • Employees must report potentially unsafe conditions and use equipment and materials properly.
  • Employees must follow job-specific safety requirements such as Safe Lift, Safe Product Handling Guidelines and safe hand placement.
  • Finally, this position must also wear Cut Proof 5 or greater gloves, a safety shirt and leather apron.
  • Regularly lift, flip and rotate objects weighing up to 75 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more through team lift
  • Regularly push an/or pull 1,000-pound cart loaded with up to 50 panes of glass
  • Work shifts of at least 8 hours, and occasionally longer, for 5 days each week
  • Stand for prolonged periods.
  • Vision abilities required by this job may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • This position must use an assisted lift or team lift any time objects exceeding 75 pounds need lifting or carrying.
  • It is an essential job function and safety rule, applicable to every employee working in a safety sensitive classified position, to be able to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 1 Year Experience in Glass Manufacturing

Responsibilities

  • Understand the daily delivery goal, on-time complete is a critical number
  • Read and decipher job order paperwork to ensure proper units are distributed for each department order
  • Properly identify glass by size, window orientation, sales order number, line number and Low Emissivity (Low E)
  • Pull or push carts of glass from the Tempering staging area to the Seamer Table
  • Check tempering stamps or glass stickers for critical order information
  • Assist the Seamer in moving glass from the cart to the Seaming Table
  • Inspect raw glass for defects prior to seaming and to make sure all glass is on the right cart for the job
  • Report defects to the Temper Operator for repair and re-ordering of glass
  • Understand and use the laser computer system for laser stamping the glass
  • Affix a laser mark on the glass identifying it as being tempered glass along with the correct thickness
  • Load Glass on the Loading Table based on size geometric design to go into the washer
  • Load Washer with maximum capacity in mind to get full efficiency from the oven
  • Consistently use the tempering bed optimization software by loading repairs and original production batches in the Batch Ban software
  • Complete manual seaming during side loading and to address geometrics
  • Communicate recipe changes with the Temper Operator
  • Periodically complete offline etches
  • Perform daily housekeeping to clean work area
  • Periodically provide proper maintenance to equipment such as changing the sanding belt
  • Fill in at different workstations as production needs require
  • Prompt and regular attendance at an assigned work location.
  • Interact and communicate with employees and customers in an appropriate manner.
  • Availability on site to confer with staff members with whom the employee must interact on a regular basis.
  • Review and analyze data for each order
  • Complete assigned tasks/projects in a timely manner.
