About The Position

This is a non-exempt, temporary/part-time position, limited to 1300 hours annually, under the general supervision of the Tax Audit Manager within the Finance Department. This position provides customer service, clerical support, and tax compliance assistance for the department. Work includes reviewing taxpayer accounts, assisting with licensing and return processing, making compliance calls, accepting and posting payments, and supporting front-office operations. The position requires strong attention to detail, accuracy in data entry, and the ability to interact professionally with taxpayers and City staff. Workload increases during peak tax periods, and the employee may assist with field visits or issuance of legal compliance notices as directed. This job description is an overview and is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience in office work that includes collections, customer service, compliance, or financial record-keeping.
  • A valid driver’s license at the time of application, and a valid Colorado driver’s license within 30 days of employment
  • License restrictions that may hinder your ability to drive on City business, such as an interlock, will be cause for disqualification
  • During the course of employment, a valid license must be maintained, and the employee must notify the City immediately upon changes to the status of their license
  • Must be able to input large volumes of data.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in sales tax, licensing, collections, or cashiering.
  • Ability to assist with field visits or issuance of compliance notices if trained and assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Review taxpayer accounts for accuracy, missing filings, and outstanding balances; follow up with taxpayers to collect payments or resolve compliance issues.
  • Make compliance phone calls and respond to questions about sales/use tax filings, licensing, and general account status.
  • Accept payments, count money, provide accurate change, and post transactions in the tax system.
  • Process and verify sales and use tax returns; scan/link documents and update taxpayer accounts.
  • Assist walk-in, phone, and email customers; provide clear explanations of basic tax and licensing requirements.
  • Create or update business licenses and accounts; verify supporting documentation.
  • Support daily mail processing, filing, cash drawer balancing, and front-counter reception as assigned.
  • Retrieve information from various sources and prepare simple spreadsheets or logs for tracking revenue or compliance activity.
  • Perform routine clerical duties and assist department staff with projects as needed.
  • May perform other duties as assigned
