About The Position

The Teller position involves performing numerous functions including processing deposits, withdrawals, posting to general ledger accounts, cashing negotiable items, processing loan payments, savings bonds, and cashier’s checks. The role also includes promoting the bank’s products and services and providing excellent customer service. The Teller is responsible for the efficient, effective, and accurate performance of Teller functions, representing the bank in a courteous and professional manner. This includes receiving and processing deposits, loan payments, and cashing checks and other negotiable instruments. The Teller examines documents for endorsements and negotiability, processes transfers between accounts, and sells traveler’s checks, official checks, and money orders. They also process credit card cash advances, verify and balance cash daily, and detect and resolve discrepancies promptly. A key aspect of the role is offering other Bank products to meet customer needs and strengthen relationships, while consistently following Teller procedures and adhering to compliance requirements. The Teller also assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective, professional business relations with clients, ensuring that client requests and inquiries are promptly resolved. They operate an online teller terminal, maintain the privacy of customer information, and ensure the Bank’s quality reputation is maintained and projected. The role requires establishing and maintaining effective coordination and working relationships with area personnel and management, assisting other personnel as required, and potentially assisting with training or orientation. The Teller keeps their supervisor informed of area activities and any problems or concerns, and completes required reports and records accurately and promptly. Attendance at meetings and training classes is expected. Additional duties may include performing night drop functions and related clerical duties, and ensuring work areas are clean, secure, and well maintained. A significant part of the role involves cross-selling Bank products and services.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • At least one year of related experience/cash handling required.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Professional appearance, dress, and attitude.
  • Good math skills.
  • Good typing skills.
  • Ability to operate related computer applications and business equipment including adding machine, typewriter, copy machine, coin, and money counting machines, and telephone.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved instructions and to deal with problems involving a few variables.
  • Ability to perform basic math skills, use decimals to compute ratios, percentages, and to draw and interpret graphs.
  • Ability to use passive vocabulary of 5,000-6,000 words; read at a slow rate; and define unfamiliar words in dictionaries for meaning, spelling, and pronunciation.
  • Ability to write complex sentences, using proper punctuation, and using adjectives and adverbs.
  • Ability to communicate in complex sentences, using normal word order with present and past tenses and good vocabulary.
