About The Position

At Proliance Surgeons, we are seeking a Telephone Triage Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team. This role involves collaborating with physicians, providers, nurses, and patients to manage patient care with a focus on experience, safety, quality, and efficiency. The LPN will act as a patient care coordinator and advocate, responsible for maintaining clinical supplies, ensuring proper documentation, and optimizing patient flow and experience in compliance with OSHA/WISHA and other regulatory guidelines. The position requires candidates to reside locally for the first 90 days of full-time onsite training in Bellingham, WA, after which it will transition to a remote work arrangement.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited LPN Program required.
  • Current Washington State LPN license required.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in a medical clinic office (heavily preferred).
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Skill in using a computer.
  • Knowledge of applicable specialties.
  • Outpatient clinical organizational ability.
  • Ability to remove oneself personally from given situations, remaining objective.
  • Ability to exhibit cooperation, flexibility, and provide assistance when interfacing with patients, physician, and staff.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Skill in organizing and reporting information that is accurate and complete.
  • Understanding of the need for and evidence of consistent respect for confidentiality/HIPAA.
  • Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all staff.
  • Ability to prepare records in accordance with detailed instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patient symptoms, health concerns, and medical history via phone to determine urgency and next steps.
  • Instruct patients on home care, self-management, medication, and understanding their conditions.
  • Refer patients to appropriate care settings (ER, urgent care, specialists, primary care) and schedule appointments.
  • Accurately record assessments, advice, and actions in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Work with providers and support staff for continuity of care and complex cases.
  • Apply established clinical guidelines and clinic policies.
  • Arrange exam room instruments and equipment and maintain supplies.
  • Dispose of contaminated supplies and sterilize medical instruments.
  • Position patients for exams and procedures.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens.
  • Obtain vitals, patient history, and chief complaints.
  • Perform other patient care related duties as necessary.
  • Prepare patient exam, dressing, and/or surgical areas using vigorous aseptic technique.
  • Hold patients in position for extended periods, manipulate body parts, use instruments to hold surgical or imaging areas immobile, or position patients on tables.
  • Hand instruments to the provider while standing for long periods.
  • Report test results to patients as indicated by the physician in a timely manner.
  • Chart all vital information in the electronic record and ensure all information related to medication, health history, and reason for visit is obtained and documented.
  • Perform phone triage, post-op calls, and respond to voicemail messages, preferably within the same business day but no later than 24 business hours, and perform required actions. Document all encounters.
  • Maintain patient documentation for visits and communications in person or over the phone.
  • Coordinate care and diagnostic testing at other facilities as indicated by the physician.
  • Obtain CT authorization and other prior authorizations as needed and requested.
  • Assist the provider in e-scribing and maintaining the medication list.
  • Assist the provider in maintaining communication with referring doctors.
  • Maintain equipment and ensure supplies are stocked and in place.
  • Follow all other daily team duties and special tasks as assigned.
