About The Position

Delaware’s Largest Cancer Treatment Group- Medical Oncology Hematology Consultants, Newark & Middletown, DE is a private practice comprised of 15 physicians and 12 APPs. Our mission is to provide quality cancer care to the patients in our local community. We are affiliated with the US Oncology Network, which is one of the nation’s largest networks of integrated, community-based oncology practices that are dedicated to advancing high-quality, evidence-based cancer care. Our board-certified physicians in Hematology and Medical Oncology, Palliative Care Medicine, and breast surgery have trained and held faculty positions in nationally and internationally recognized academic centers. Our physicians have extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of malignant diseases and disorders of the blood and breast. We have an immediate opening for a Telephone Operator II. This position will be remote after a training period in the Newark location. SCOPE: Under supervision or in collaboration with practice physicians, involved in the care of individuals, families and patient groups who are dealing with cancer or other related diagnosis. This care may be in clinic or virtually, via telemedicine. Responsibilities may include duties related to prevention, screening, patient care, management, and research. May serve as direct caregiver, health care consultant, patient educator, administrator, or researcher. Ensures compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards and requirements. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum three years office experience, preferably in a medical setting.
  • Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, calculator, telephone, copier and other office equipment.
  • Vision must be correctable to 20/20 and hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts.

Responsibilities

  • Courteously and efficiently answers all incoming calls and connects callers with the correct extension.
  • Takes and relays messages in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Responds to emergency and urgent calls from patients in a timely manner. Directs callers immediately to clinical staff as necessary.
  • Performs operator functions including triaging calls; connecting and transferring calls; setting up conference calls; instructing users on telephone procedures; and reporting telephone and equipment malfunctions to the appropriate party.
  • Provides a pleasant and helpful phone contact for callers.
  • Responsible for opening and closing the switchboard.
  • Responsible for the in-house paging system.
  • Performs clerical duties as assigned to maintain workflow in the department.
