About The Position

The Monitor Technician provides continuous remote observation of cardiac telemetry and pulse-oximetry for adult patients across transitional care and acute care inpatient units throughout the Health System. Working within a fast-paced, high-acuity centralized telemetry environment, the Monitor Technician plays an important role in patient safety through the early detection and timely reporting of cardiac arrhythmias, potentially life-threatening rhythms, and oxygen desaturations. The Monitor Technician continuously observes patient monitoring systems, recognizes and identifies changes in cardiac rhythms and oxygen saturation, and promptly communicates significant findings to appropriate nursing staff. Responsibilities include obtaining, analyzing, and interpreting cardiac rhythm strips each shift and whenever significant rhythm changes occur. The Monitor Technician works collaboratively with telemetry nurses and nursing staff across multiple inpatient units and campuses to support effective communication, timely clinical response, and continuity of patient monitoring. Using state-of-the-art telemetry technology, the Monitor Technician contributes to around-the-clock centralized monitoring for a large and diverse adult inpatient population while maintaining accuracy, attentiveness, professionalism, and teamwork in a highly dynamic environment. Responsible for maintaining the knowledge and skills essential to the performance of behaviors described in this job description, and is accountable to the administrative nurse.

Requirements

  • Continuous remote observation of cardiac telemetry and pulse-oximetry for adult patients.
  • Working within a fast-paced, high-acuity centralized telemetry environment.
  • Early detection and timely reporting of cardiac arrhythmias, potentially life-threatening rhythms, and oxygen desaturations.
  • Continuous observation of patient monitoring systems.
  • Recognition and identification of changes in cardiac rhythms and oxygen saturation.
  • Prompt communication of significant findings to appropriate nursing staff.
