Requirements

  • At minimum 6 months of RN experience
  • Communication, organizational, computer skills
  • Team player
  • Ability to work independently and quickly
  • Must be able to properly read EKG.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
  • Current professional RN license issued and/or recognized by Board of Nurse examiners for the state of Texas
  • BLS, ACLS for AHA

Responsibilities

  • Provision and coordination of patient-centered care.
  • Coordinate care to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Participate in patient and family teaching.
  • Delegate and work cooperatively and collaboratively with ancillary nursing and other patient team personnel.
  • Maintain standards for professional nursing practice and professional nursing performance in the clinical setting.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and service appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Collect current symptoms, detailed patient history and consults and coordinates with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement & evaluate patient care plans.
  • Organize and plan care of patients in the telemetry department with the ability to assess, determine treatment rationale and delivery, follow protocols, administer medications with accuracy and knowledge, educate patients.
  • Accurately obtain & record results of assessment, care delivery, medication and administration, treatments, responses in the electronic medical record or on designation documentation packets.
  • Perform daily checks of and cleans equipment such as but not limited to monitors, code equipment, crash cart checks and oxygen cylinders.
  • Prepare and administer medications using the rights established by the Texas Board of Nursing and facility policies and procedures.
  • Maintain care standards established by the Telemetry Nurses Association and facility policies and procedures.
  • Use clear, concise, professional communication with coworkers, patients, all customers internal and external.
  • Use AIDET in interactions with patients and family members.
  • Utilize white boards for patient communication.
  • Monitor patients using proper equipment as ordered.
  • Triage patients appropriately using the ESI system.
  • Arrive to work prepared to receive patient report on time.
  • Provide discharge instructions, follow up care and education to patients and family members.
  • Abide by HIPAA regulations.
  • Utilize SBAR when communicating with oncoming shift, physician communication and giving report to ancillary or other nursing services.
  • Speak up to stop the line and escalate potential safety events if necessary.
  • Act quickly, appropriately and with a sense of urgency and prioritization in delivery of patient care.
  • Stabilize patients by coordination with medical staff providers, EMS, coworkers, patients and family members in a professional, calm manner.
  • Attend and/or complete monthly, annual and assigned training.
  • May float to other areas of the hospital as assigned.
  • Stock assigned rooms, keep work areas clean.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Treats everyone as their customer; utilizes scripting and other tools to ensure consistency in customer service; expresses recognition and shows appreciation to others; fully utilizes AIDET principles; responds quickly to handle requests, complaints and questions; displays a positive attitude.
  • Wears nametag properly; follows dress code policy; answers phone correctly and promptly; is prepared for meetings; meets deadlines; does not participate in gossip; acts ethically and treats others with respect; respects customer’s and co-worker’s time; establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers and co-workers.
  • Attends staff meetings; follows HIPAA guidelines; follows patient rights policy; complies with the compliance program; demonstrates knowledge of role in a disaster; demonstrates knowledge of fire and fire drill procedures; working knowledge of hospital emergency codes; always utilizes standard precautions in the clinical setting; safely manages the environment of care by demonstrating a working knowledge of the requirements of the: Life Safety program, Utilities Management program, Hazardous Materials program, Emergency Preparedness program, Safety Management program, Medical Equipment Management program, Security Management program.
