The Telemetry Nursing Assistant (TNA) assists Registered Nurses (RNs) with the daily care of patients, including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, activity orders, and ambulation. This role involves measuring and documenting vital signs, intake and output, and daily weights, as well as accurately documenting patient information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). The TNA performs purposeful rounding, collects specimens, and performs point-of-care testing. They also assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, and manage patient belongings. Additionally, the TNA performs various errands, maintains stock for the nursing area, and cleans equipment. The role requires performing patient positioning and transporting duties, assisting with nutritional needs, and maintaining skin integrity. Depending on unit requirements and under RN direction, the TNA may also perform tasks such as removing IVs, providing post-mortem care, and bladder scans. Adherence to infection prevention policies, including hand hygiene and aseptic procedures, is crucial. The TNA must demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of the patients served, understanding principles of growth and development.
