About The Position

The Telemetry Monitoring Tech coordinates and maintains specialized technical skills to monitor patients’ ECG rhythms, interpret results, and communicate effectively with the healthcare team according to department procedures. The role provides continuous surveillance and analysis of cardiac rhythms at the electrocardiographic central monitoring station, recognizes significant ECG events, and escalates life-threatening changes to the appropriate Registered Nurse. The technician also operates and troubleshoots the telemetry system, manages patient information in the system, and supports safe, compassionate, and efficient patient care.

Requirements

• Completion of a Telemetry Monitoring Technician education program or one year of related experience.
• Knowledge of ECG rhythms and the monitoring system, including the ability to review trends and alarms.
• Ability to perform duties requiring prolonged and/or extensive sitting, standing, and walking.

Responsibilities

• Continuously monitor and analyze cardiac rhythms at the electrocardiographic central monitoring station, document according to established procedures, interpret ECG rhythms, and recognize significant ECG events.
• Immediately escalate significant or life-threatening changes using the appropriate ECG algorithm and communicate clearly, concisely, and accurately with the responsible individual within the established timeframe.
• Obtain rhythm strips according to hospital cardiac telemetry procedures.
• Operate and troubleshoot all functions of the telemetry monitoring system and account for all monitors at the end of each assigned shift.
• Admit, transfer, and discharge patients and enter required information into the telemetry monitoring system.
• Provide and ensure service according to established standards to optimize the patient experience.
• Successfully complete the MHHS dysrhythmia examination.
• Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibility and clinical competency.
• Ensure safe care for patients, staff, and visitors, and follow Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards related to time management, supply management, productivity, quality, and budget specifications.
• Meet mandatory and continuing education and skills competency requirements, support department goals, and serve as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
• Model Memorial Hermann’s service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized, and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.
