About The Position

To provide specialized advanced technical skills in all technical aspects of the telemetry monitoring system.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Successful completion of EMT – Paramedic program or graduation from related allied health sciences program or one (1) year related experience.
• Passing score of 80%25 or higher of UTMB’s arrhythmia test.

Responsibilities

• Operates and troubleshoots all functions of the telemetry monitoring system, including admitting, transferring, and discharging patients, adjusting alarms, reviewing trends and alarms, cleaning and maintaining telemetry monitors/holders, accounting for monitors, ordering supplies, obtaining and documenting rhythm strips, and maintaining a log book.
• Provides continual surveillance and analysis of cardiac rhythms on electrocardiographic Central Station, interpreting EKG rhythms, recognizing significant EKG events, communicating information to the responsible individual, and immediately reporting significant or life-threatening changes to a RN.
• Participates in orienting and teaching of nursing staff, physicians, and students as related to monitoring equipment.
• Assists with maintenance of unit equipment, including performing daily quality checks of freestanding cardio-defibrillators.
• Maintains a safe environment by ensuring equipment has current electrical and maintenance inspections and reporting all malfunctioning equipment.
• Provides age-appropriate interaction and care as indicated.
• Uses aseptic techniques and infection control measures in the performance of duties.
• Recognizes patient care priorities, treatment plans, objectives, and potential crises.
