About The Position

Sentara is currently hiring a Monitor Technician to work at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital on the Telemetry Monitor Surveillance team. This is a full-time, night shift position, approximately 7pm to 7am. Our 12-bed cardiac unit provides specialized care for patients with complex cardiovascular needs in a close-knit, team-focused environment. The role involves observing, recognizing, interpreting, evaluating, and documenting EKG tracings on telemetry-monitored patients to detect deviations from the patient's norm. The technician will promptly notify appropriate personnel of dysrhythmias, operate and utilize the monitoring system to its full capacity, and ensure the proper and safe functioning of the telemetry equipment.

Requirements

  • Completion of a monitor technician surveillance program/course required upon hire.
  • Candidates who have not completed a monitor technician surveillance program must complete a certificate program within 90 days of hire.
  • To be released from new employee orientation all Monitor Technicians must successfully complete the Sentara Basic Arrhythmia competency tool which includes passing a basic arrhythmia exam.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of EKG/Monitor Tech experience preferred.
  • 1 year experience in monitor technician surveillance within the last 5 years will be accepted in substitute of a monitor tech surveillance program/course.

Responsibilities
