About The Position

Planned Parenthood Northern California (PPNorCal) is seeking a Telehealth Clinician to work 24 hours per week. This role involves providing comprehensive clinical sexual and reproductive health care services, both in person and via telephonic or video-based platforms. The clinician will function as part of a healthcare team, providing care under the medical supervision of the Medical Director and clinical oversight by the Telehealth Lead Clinician. The position requires accurate medical documentation, patient education, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of accredited Advanced Practice Clinician program.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to document in electronic health record concisely, accurately, and according to PPNorCal protocols.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, patients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to understand and interpret statistics.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Knowledge and experience with EHR & EPM systems.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office applications required.
  • Current California NP, PA, CNM, or another APC license.
  • Current California BRN Furnishing Number (if NP or CNM).
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI) number.
  • Current CPR BLS certificate.
  • Must possess reliable transportation or automobile transportation with a valid California Driver's License and insurance as determined by the requirements of each position.
  • Entry-level to three years of experience in sexual and reproductive health care.
  • Direct patient care experience, preferably in women’s health/reproductive health care.
  • Common sense and a commitment to excellent customer service and quality health care.
  • Commitment to working with low-income and culturally diverse patients with an emphasis on health equity and empowerment.
  • Good judgment to serve patients promptly, competently, and in a friendly manner.
  • Ability to understand and demonstrate, in all interactions, the importance of high-quality care including accurate documentation and follow-up.
  • Ability to follow affiliate-wide protocols, policies, and procedures, center-specific policies and procedures and PPNorCal’s Honorable Standards.
  • Ability to maintain complete patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to work independently as well as consult with supervising physician or other clinicians as dictated by patient need and assessment findings.
  • Ability to be flexible and available to extend/change scheduled hours or location as needed to meet needs of the health center and patients.
  • Willingness to work some evenings and a minimum of/at least one Saturday per month based on Health Center operating hours required.
  • Willingness to precept students or train new clinicians as appropriate.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in reproductive health, OB/GYN, primary care, or community health care preferred.
  • Prenatal experience strongly desired if applying for a prenatal position.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Knowledge of additional languages desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain a basic health history and comprehensive gynecological (GYN) history.
  • Perform a general physical exam, breast exam, GYN exam, and male genitourinary exam.
  • Recognize common breast and GYN deviations from normal and provide management or referral as appropriate.
  • Recognize common non-GYN deviations from normal and provide management or referral as appropriate.
  • Provide preventive care, including screening for breast and cervical cancers.
  • Obtain and interpret laboratory tests and results related to GYN visits.
  • Perform and interpret transvaginal and abdominal ultrasounds.
  • Screen for contraindications and special conditions to contraceptive methods.
  • Provide appropriate contraception to patients, including intrauterine contraceptives (IUCs) and implants.
  • Test and treat STI’s and other infectious conditions.
  • Provide PrEP and nPEP to prevent HIV infection.
  • Provide care across the reproductive health lifespan, including basic infertility services and menopause management.
  • Provide medication abortion, early pregnancy complication management, and other special services as appropriate by licensure.
  • Assess and manage complications from in-clinic abortion, medication abortion, and vasectomy.
  • Provide care for patients of all gender identities, including gender-affirming care.
  • Construct an accurate assessment and treatment plan based on history, exam, and lab findings.
  • Provide patient with general reproductive health maintenance, education, and counseling.
  • Ensure complete and accurate medical documentation in EHR application and bill and code patient visits appropriately.
  • Function as a medical resource for health center staff.
  • Participate in health center efforts to achieve established goals for productivity, with the minimum goal of 3.0 encounters per hour.
  • Participate in research studies conducted in the health center.
  • Exercise a commitment diversity, equity, and inclusion in all interactions with patients and staff.
  • Participate in and model the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives of PPNorCal.
  • Work with a virtual team to communicate and triage patients via telephone or video.
  • Provide virtual care to patients as outlined in the Telehealth scope of services.
  • Participate in follow-up of Quality Assurance activities.
  • Serve as a medical resource for PPNorCal staff.
