The successful candidate will have extensive experience managing telecommunications, utility, or related infrastructure projects in a consulting environment. Working closely with clients and project stakeholders, this individual will oversee all aspects of project delivery while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, technical standards, and quality requirements. This role offers the opportunity to lead projects from initial planning and design through permitting and construction support. The Project Manager will serve as the primary client contact, mentor junior staff, resolve project challenges, and contribute to proposals and business development initiatives. FPA’s Telecommunications Department provides planning, design, permitting, and construction support services for telecommunications infrastructure projects, including small cell deployments, fiber-optic infrastructure, wireless facilities, and related utility improvements. The Project Manager – Telecommunications will lead multiple projects, coordinate work across disciplines, and oversee the preparation of engineering plans, specifications, permit applications, and construction documents. This role requires the technical knowledge, leadership, and organizational skills needed to manage schedules, budgets, staffing, and competing priorities while delivering high-quality work that meets client expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Telecommunications, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience managing telecommunications, utility, or infrastructure-related projects within a consulting engineering or multidisciplinary engineering environment.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications infrastructure including fiber optic systems, wireless facilities, utility coordination, and permitting processes.
  • Strong understanding of project management principles including budgeting, scheduling, resource coordination, and client management.
  • Experience coordinating with municipalities, utility companies, regulatory agencies, and telecommunications carriers.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project management software.
  • Familiarity with applicable telecommunications and structural design standards and codes including TIA-222, AISC, and ACI.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of New Jersey required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites and client meetings as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AutoCAD/Civil 3D, Revit, O-Calc, tnxTower, RISA, and other structural analysis software is preferred.
  • PMP certification; Preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage telecommunications projects including small cell deployments, fiber optic infrastructure, wireless facilities, utility coordination, and related civil/site development improvements.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, subcontractors, utility companies, municipalities, and internal project teams.
  • Coordinate project schedules, budgets, staffing, and deliverables to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Oversee the preparation and review of engineering plans, specifications, permit applications, and construction documents.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including civil, structural, electrical, survey, environmental, and permitting staff.
  • Monitor project progress and proactively identify and resolve issues impacting scope, schedule, or budget.
  • Attend client meetings, site visits, and project coordination meetings as needed.
  • Assist with proposal preparation, scope development, fee estimates, and business development initiatives.
  • Support construction administration activities including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittmits, and coordinating with contractors during construction.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations, client standards, and company quality standards.
  • Mentor junior staff and support professional growth within the department.
