About The Position

Silver Cross Hospital is seeking a Telecommunications Operator to join their team. This role is crucial for managing incoming calls, providing information, transferring calls, and ensuring smooth communication within the hospital. The operator will handle various administrative tasks, maintain important directories, and respond to emergency situations. This position requires accuracy, efficiency, and the ability to handle sensitive information in compliance with HIPPA laws. The operator will also be responsible for utilizing various communication systems and monitoring critical hospital systems.

Requirements

  • Ability to provide an appropriate initial response to irate callers and contact appropriate staff and escalate call.
  • Familiarity with call restrictions of each area.
  • Proficiency in utilizing Meditech/MOX, Outlook, and Cerner.
  • Knowledge of HIPPA laws and regulations.
  • Experience with paging systems (Air Messenger Pro, ComNet, Cisco switchboard, CES).
  • Experience with monitoring systems (Siemens Fire, Cure Security, Rauland - Nurse Call).
  • Experience with ARC Call System.
  • Experience with TDD and Pacific Interpreters.
  • Ability to document incidents and manage on-call schedules.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Telecommunications Operator in a hospital setting.
  • Experience training new hires and staff.
  • Familiarity with security radio usage.

Responsibilities

  • Answer incoming calls, greeting callers, providing information, and transferring calls.
  • Assist callers in determining the proper department or person they want to be connected.
  • Assist in calls where speed and accuracy are essential.
  • Perform clerical duties such as typing, filing, documenting, and other miscellaneous duties.
  • Maintain an organized Directory with updated information such as on-call schedules, updated and current telephone numbers/addresses, etc.
  • Follow all HIPPA laws and regulations.
  • Route emergency calls appropriately.
  • Contact security and maintenance staff members when necessary.
  • Utilize Meditech/MOX, Outlook, and Cerner for e-mail, patient/physician look up.
  • Act upon and follow policy and procedure for all emergency codes and disasters.
  • Utilize and maintain Air Messenger Pro paging.
  • Utilize and maintain ComNet overhead paging and zone paging.
  • Utilize and maintain ARC Call System.
  • Page appropriate personnel audibly via paging through the Cisco switchboard system & CES.
  • Page physician and staff via Microsoft Outlook.
  • Monitor Fire (Siemens), generator, and security systems (Cure).
  • Monitor alarms and contact proper personnel when needed.
  • Utilize and monitor Rauland - Nurse Call.
  • Utilize and monitor Security radio.
  • Dispatch Building Services during meetings, after hours and on weekends.
  • Document incidents and dispatch technicians on call.
  • Dispatch Home Health after hours and on the weekends.
  • Document incidents, manage the home health on call schedule, document patient information, and contact the nurse on call.
  • Act as a backup for Security and take their calls when no one is available.
  • Train new hires (operators) and Security staff.
  • Operate TDD and Pacific Interpreters to process calls requiring special attention.
  • Provide information on patient location and be familiar with call restrictions of each area.
  • Provide an appropriate initial response to irate callers and contact appropriate staff and escalate call.
