About The Position

Performs straight forward network architecture assignments under moderate direction. Uses knowledge to support the planning, researching, evaluating, designing, and developing network systems. Participates in configuration, installation, and performance analysis of networks. This role involves designing, installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and analyzing the performance of AEP's intermediate and enterprise telecommunication networks and systems. It requires adherence to policies, procedures, and company rules, as well as compliance with external agency regulations. The position involves preparing cost estimates, documenting project work, analyzing network performance, and troubleshooting technical issues. It also requires following standard engineering project workflows, applying economic analysis, and adhering to budgeting processes. A strong understanding of AEP's networks, components, and facilities is necessary for efficient problem-solving and project completion. Learning AEP's organizational structure and the specific role of the organizational unit is also part of the job.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, telecommunications, or related field of study OR associate’s degree in field mentioned above with 2 years of relevant work experience OR HS diploma/GED with 4 years of relevant work experience required.
  • 2 years of relevant work experience in addition to any experience mentioned above.
  • Valid Driver's License is Required.
  • Strong understanding of IP, DWDM, and SONET transport networks
  • Strong knowledge on static and dynamic IP networks, QoS policies, and traffic engineering.
  • Design various types of services such as EVPL, EPL, Static, Dynamic, OTN on IP, SONET, DWDM, and Microwave networks.
  • Possess intermediate level knowledge of communications technologies and inter-networking principles.
  • Demonstrate competency in analytical techniques necessary to handle assignments of moderate complexity. (e.g., by dividing the problem into component steps, and performing the analysis necessary to complete each step.)
  • Exhibit understanding for pertinent telecom equipment, materials, systems, and business processes.
  • Exhibit ability to understand interrelationships between systems and component equipment.
  • Demonstrate ability to analyze and recommend enhancements to business processes.

Responsibilities
