About The Position

This is a temporary Field Specialist I position supporting a Powell River-based project (estimated mid to end July ~ 3 weeks). The team departs from Powell River to the project area daily. You’ll be introduced to the fundamentals of data collection and fieldwork, and you’ll build confidence completing tasks independently with guidance from a team lead. The role involves working outdoors collecting essential infrastructure data to help build networks that connect communities across Canada. You will support field projects through accurate, consistent data collection and documentation.

Requirements

  • Dependable, motivated Field Specialists who are comfortable working outdoors and can follow a consistent data-collection process.
  • 1–2 years of relevant experience (telecommunications fieldwork preferred) and/or a recent university/college/technical program graduate (or equivalent combination of training and experience)
  • Comfortable using mobile devices and GPS/survey tools to capture accurate data
  • Able to work efficiently on computers, tablets, and smartphones (Android/iOS)
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace (or equivalent)
  • Able to learn and follow a step-by-step mobile app workflow consistently, document outlier scenarios clearly, and troubleshoot basic app/device issues
  • Safety-first and risk-aware
  • Able to work outdoors in varying conditions and demonstrate good judgment (including stopping work when conditions are unsafe)
  • Communicates clearly with a team lead and adjacent field teams to coordinate coverage and avoid gaps/duplication
  • Available for the full project timeline (mid-July to early September, estimated)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using mobile data collection apps (e.g., Fulcrum, Field Maps) and/or basic GIS familiarity
  • Background in telecom, forestry, surveying, or utilities
  • Comfort working in rural areas
  • First aid / wilderness / wildlife safety training

Responsibilities

  • Walk-outs to neighborhoods or rural areas using mobile devices and/or survey tools to collect GPS and asset information for telephone poles and/or civil structures, utilities, and related infrastructure
  • Following a consistent, step-by-step mobile app process to capture required attributes and notes (process discipline is essential)
  • Working alongside a team lead and managers to progress assigned work and meet daily targets
  • Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting outside and/or inside plant infrastructure data
  • Communicating with team members working in adjacent neighborhoods to avoid gaps or duplication
  • Supporting research, testing, and process improvement initiatives as needed
  • Working safely outdoors in all weather conditions and stopping work when conditions are unsafe
