Leidos is seeking a Telecom Cable Plant Engineer to join their Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) team, supporting the United States Antarctic Program (USAP). This role is crucial for the planning and implementation of science support requirements in Antarctica. The engineer will be responsible for designing and documenting all cable plant, including Inside Plant (ISP) and Outside Plant (OSP), and associated equipment within the USAP enterprise. This includes designing and engineering cable plant upgrades and managing the USAP’s Cable Management System, Patch Manager, to ensure accurate data entry of all cable plant and connected assets. The position involves close collaboration with the telecommunications team to design, engineer, deploy, and maintain improvements to the USAP’s OSP and ISP. Key duties include managing data for the Cable Management System, ensuring compliance with USAP standards, performing quality assurance checks, and developing Standard Operating Procedures for cable management and data validation. Operational locations include McMurdo, Amundsen-Scott South Pole, and Palmer stations, as well as logistics hubs in California, New Zealand, and Chile. Deployment to Antarctica is required, approximately 12 to 16 weeks per year. US Citizenship is required, and a Public Trust security clearance must be obtained prior to the start date. Leidos ASC is the prime contractor for the NSF's USAP, providing science and logistics support across three remote research stations and deep field sites. The individual must pass required physical and dental examinations for deployment to Antarctica.
