About The Position

Leidos is seeking a Telecom Cable Plant Engineer to join their Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) team, supporting the United States Antarctic Program (USAP). This role is crucial for the planning and implementation of science support requirements in Antarctica. The engineer will be responsible for designing and documenting all cable plant, including Inside Plant (ISP) and Outside Plant (OSP), and associated equipment within the USAP enterprise. Key responsibilities include designing and engineering cable plant upgrades, managing the USAP’s Cable Management System (Patch Manager) for accurate data entry of cable plant and connected assets, and collaborating with the telecommunications team to design, engineer, deploy, and maintain improvements to the USAP’s OSP and ISP. The position requires deployment to Antarctica for approximately 12 to 16 weeks per year and necessitates US Citizenship and the ability to obtain a Public Trust security clearance. The role also involves ensuring work areas meet safety standards, diagnosing and troubleshooting telecom systems, surveying cable for the management system, inputting data, coordinating infrastructure record updates, and providing training on the Cable Management System. The engineer will also develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to cable management, data validation, and quality assurance, stay updated on telecom technology advancements, and prepare technical documentation. The role is based in a challenging environment, and the company seeks individuals who are proactive and driven.

Requirements

US Citizenship is required.
Must obtain a Public Trust security clearance prior to start date.
Deployment to Antarctica is required for this position, currently approximately 12 to 16 weeks per year.
Must successfully complete the physical and dental examinations as required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica.

Responsibilities

Design and document all cable plant, including ISP, OSP, and attached equipment within the USAP enterprise.
Design and engineer cable plant upgrades throughout the USAP enterprise.
Manage the USAP’s Cable Management System: Patch Manager to ensure accurate and consistent data entry of all cable plant and connected assets.
Coordinate and manage the gathering of all data to be included in the Cable Management System.
Ensure all data entered into the Cable Management System complies with USAP enterprise standards.
Perform periodic quality assurance checks of the data.
Develop Standard Operating Procedures related to cable management, data validation, and quality assurance.
Design, engineer, and implement telecom systems that meet enterprise requirements.
Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with existing telecom systems.
Survey all ISP and OSP cable for inclusion in Cable Management System.
Input cable and equipment data into the USAP’s enterprise Cable Management System.
Coordinate the update of telecom infrastructure records received from projects and sustaining operations.
Provide Cable Management System training to authorized staff and customers.
Develop Cable Management System workflows.
Develop, maintain, and update all Cable Management System Standard Operating Procedures and documentation.
Stay up to date with advancements in telecom technology and recommend upgrades where necessary.
Prepare technical documentation of telecom systems.
Ensure that work areas meet all ASC and USAP safety standards.
Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace program and ensuring safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
