About The Position
Join the City of Hillsboro's Ohana Teen Night program and help provide a safe, welcoming place where young people can connect, build friendships, explore new interests, and have fun every Friday evening. This is an opportunity to be a trusted mentor, role model, and community builder while helping teens discover new interests, build confidence, and develop leadership skills through recreation, connection, and the Teen Leader Program. Requirements
- Experience working with youth or teens in recreational, educational, community, or similar settings.
- Ability to lead activities and keep participants engaged.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Sound judgment and the ability to respond calmly to challenging situations.
- Commitment to creating inclusive and welcoming environments.
- Reliability and ability to work independently while collaborating with a team.
- Positive attitude, flexibility, and enthusiasm for youth development.
- Ability to model respectful and appropriate behavior for participants.
- Must be out of high school at the time of hire.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Some related work experience
- Ability to attend work on a regular, predictable basis as scheduled.

Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging Friday night activities for teens in grades 7–12 that rotates between creative, physical, and social experiences.
- Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
- Communicate effectively with participants, families, coworkers, and supervisors.
- Prepare and restore program spaces to ensure safe, welcoming environments each week.
- Participate directly in games, projects, and conversations with teen participants to encourage engagement and connection.
- Lead activities such as arts and crafts, sports, group games, theater, video games, tabletop games, and other interest-based programming.
- Support and mentor participants in the Teen Leader Program, helping youth develop leadership skills, take ownership of activities, and contribute to an inclusive program culture.
- Monitor program areas to maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive atmosphere while creating a welcoming environment that reflects the diversity of our community.
- Follow established safety procedures and respond appropriately to incidents and concerns.
- Facilitate weekly Ohana Teen Night programming serving approximately 70–90 teens each Friday.
- Support rotating activity offerings that include arts, recreation, fitness, leadership, and community engagement opportunities.
- Help create teen-driven programming by encouraging participant input and leadership.
- Support and develop the Teen Leader Program by creating opportunities for youth leadership and peer engagement.
- Participate in ongoing staff training focused on youth development, safety practices, behavior management, and best practices for working with teens.
