About The Position

This position is responsible for the direct supervision of teens and implementing planned activities within the Teen Center. The role requires understanding the YMCA's mission and operating as a movement, while fostering a nurturing and safe environment for teens. The attendant will guide teens, plan activities, and ensure their safety and well-being.

Requirements

Minimum of 18 years of age.
Must work well with teens and understand the YMCA, its goals, and how it operates.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Upon hire, must complete Intro to the Ys Cause & Culture, Y's Way to Service & Engagement, and I Hear You: Service with CARE.
Within 90 days of hire, must complete Preventing Sexual Abuse Between Young Children, Principles of Youth Development, Youth Affirmations: Distinguishing Between Praise and Encouragement, and Foundations of Listen First trainings.
Within 6 months of hire, must complete Engaging with Families training.
Must understand their relationship to the teens, parents, the Branch, and the YMCA.
Must possess a character that is above reproach and worthy of emulation by the teens.
Should show maturity and have the ability to relate to teens from all social/economic segments of the community.
Must possess effective communication and organizational skills.
May be required to lift and carry up to 50 lbs in sports equipment and other items.
May be required to stand for extended periods of time while performing job functions.
Required to maintain physical endurance for extended periods of time, in all types of weather conditions.
Must be alert at all times.
Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities in order to monitor environment and teen's well being.
Must possess auditory and verbal capabilities to effectively communicate with teens, parents and staff.

Nice To Haves

Get SMART, CPR, AED and First Aid certification preferred.

Responsibilities

Direct supervision of teens and implementing planned activities.
Leadership and guidance of a group of teens.
Acquainting teens with rules, activities, daily schedules, and the area.
Ensuring the safety and welfare of each teen.
Keeping track of teen attendance.
Reporting all accidents to the Supervisor and completing proper health log and/or incident forms.
Planning, organizing, and implementing activity plans for special interest activities.
Creating a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity.
Keeping supplies organized, maintaining and cleaning the facility, and caring for equipment.
Helping to maintain good working conditions, inventory, and clean-up after all activities.
Performing all other duties as assigned.
