About The Position

The TECO Energy Internship & Cooperative Education Program offers college degree-seeking students the opportunity for professional growth while meeting the business needs of the company. The program is an extension of the educational process, providing practical experience to complement formal classroom work. The co-op program recruits students from colleges to give them an opportunity to work in a professional environment related to their field of study. Tampa Electric is wishing to provide an opportunity for college students or recent graduates the opportunity to explore career options within the field of Substation Engineering – System Security. This includes allowing students to apply academic knowledge, skills, gain career skills, build resumes, and network with emergency management professionals.

Requirements

Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering
A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required.
To qualify as a co-op student, enrollment in your university’s co-op program is required.
Able to organize, develop and write professional documents.
Work on a Team
Good Communication Skills
Organized and Punctual

Responsibilities

Create and/or modify relay protection settings for distribution and/or transmission substations.
Provide support for System Protection & Controls Specialists on testing/commissioning of relay settings on related projects.
Participate in meetings with internal and external departments/vendors.
Attend training related to engineering, safety, and leadership.
Responding to storms will be considered a condition of employment. TECO Energy and its companies serve a role in providing critical services to our community during an emergency. Team members are required to participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our TECO Energy customers. Team members are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's rules and procedures.
